Entities Non-Latin Characters

Unicode supports writing systems from around the world, allowing webpages to display text far beyond the Latin alphabet. These characters include letters and symbols used by Hebrew, Armenian, Georgian, Thai, and many other languages and writing systems.

Most non-Latin characters do not have named HTML character references. They can be entered directly in a UTF-8 HTML document or represented with decimal or hexadecimal numeric character references.

Using Non-Latin Characters in HTML

UTF-8 allows characters from different writing systems to appear together in the same HTML document. Numeric character references can also represent individual Unicode characters. Use the lang attribute to identify the language of content and dir="rtl" when right-to-left direction needs to be specified.

<p lang="he" dir="rtl">&#1513;&#1500;&#1493;&#1501;</p>
<p lang="hy">&#1377;&#1397;&#1381;&#1406;</p>
<p lang="ka">&#4306;&#4304;&#4315;&#4304;&#4320;&#4335;&#4317;&#4305;&#4304;</p>
<p lang="th">&#3626;&#3623;&#3633;&#3626;&#3604;&#3637;</p>
