Entities Currency Symbols

Currency symbols are characters used to identify monetary units such as dollars, euros, pounds, yen, rupees, and won. Unicode provides currency signs for currencies used throughout the world, and HTML character references can be used to display these symbols in webpages.

Some currency symbols have named HTML character references, while others are represented using decimal or hexadecimal numeric character references. In a UTF-8 document, currency symbols can also be entered directly into the HTML source.

Using Currency Symbols in HTML

Currency symbols can be entered directly in a UTF-8 document or written with named or numeric character references. A character reference displays the symbol only; it does not identify an amount's currency or perform currency conversion.
