Color Schemes
A color scheme is a group of colors selected according to their relationships on the color wheel. Different color schemes can create subtle, balanced, contrasting, or more vibrant combinations.
Analogous
An analogous color scheme uses colors positioned near each other on the color wheel. These colors usually blend naturally and can create a coordinated appearance with relatively gentle color contrast.
Monochromatic
A monochromatic color scheme uses variations of a single hue. The palette is created by changing the lightness of the selected color while keeping the same basic hue.
Complementary
A complementary color scheme uses colors from opposite sides of the color wheel. The strong difference between the two hues can create noticeable contrast and make individual colors stand out.
Split Complementary
A split complementary color scheme begins with a base color and uses colors on either side of its complementary color. This provides color contrast while offering more variation than a basic complementary scheme.
Triad
A triadic color scheme uses three hues spaced evenly around the color wheel. The resulting colors provide clear contrast while maintaining a balanced relationship between the hues.
Tetrad
A tetradic color scheme uses four hues arranged as two complementary pairs. This creates a broader range of contrasting colors and provides several options for selecting dominant and supporting colors.
Using Color Palettes
Color palettes can help establish consistent colors throughout a design. Use the generated colors for backgrounds, text, borders, buttons, links, highlights, graphics, and other design elements, while checking that foreground and background combinations provide sufficient contrast for readability.
