Entities Arrows
Unicode provides a large collection of arrow symbols that can be used in HTML for directions, navigation, mathematical notation, diagrams, instructions, and other visual indicators.
Many commonly used arrows have named HTML character references. Arrow symbols can also be represented with decimal or hexadecimal numeric character references or entered directly in a UTF-8 HTML document.
Directional Arrows
Directional arrows point left, right, up, down, or in multiple directions. These are among the most commonly used Unicode arrow characters.
| Character | Named | Decimal | Hexadecimal | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ← | ← | ← | ← | Leftwards arrow |
| ↑ | ↑ | ↑ | ↑ | Upwards arrow |
| → | → | → | → | Rightwards arrow |
| ↓ | ↓ | ↓ | ↓ | Downwards arrow |
| ↔ | ↔ | ↔ | ↔ | Left right arrow |
| ↕ | ↕ | ↕ | ↕ | Up down arrow |
| ↖ | ↖ | ↖ | ↖ | North west arrow |
| ↗ | ↗ | ↗ | ↗ | North east arrow |
| ↘ | ↘ | ↘ | ↘ | South east arrow |
| ↙ | ↙ | ↙ | ↙ | South west arrow |
Double Arrows
Double arrows are commonly used in mathematics and logic to represent implication, equivalence, mappings, and related relationships.
| Character | Named | Decimal | Hexadecimal | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ⇐ | ⇐ | ⇐ | ⇐ | Leftwards double arrow |
| ⇑ | ⇑ | ⇑ | ⇑ | Upwards double arrow |
| ⇒ | ⇒ | ⇒ | ⇒ | Rightwards double arrow |
| ⇓ | ⇓ | ⇓ | ⇓ | Downwards double arrow |
| ⇔ | ⇔ | ⇔ | ⇔ | Left right double arrow |
| ⇕ | ⇕ | ⇕ | ⇕ | Up down double arrow |
| ⇖ | ⇖ | ⇖ | ⇖ | North west double arrow |
| ⇗ | ⇗ | ⇗ | ⇗ | North east double arrow |
| ⇘ | ⇘ | ⇘ | ⇘ | South east double arrow |
| ⇙ | ⇙ | ⇙ | ⇙ | South west double arrow |
Hooked & Curved Arrows
Hooked and curved arrows are useful for indicating returns, mappings, rotations, repeated actions, and other directional relationships.
| Character | Named | Decimal | Hexadecimal | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ↩ | ↩ | ↩ | ↩ | Leftwards arrow with hook |
| ↪ | ↪ | ↪ | ↪ | Rightwards arrow with hook |
| ↫ | ↫ | ↫ | ↫ | Leftwards arrow with loop |
| ↬ | ↬ | ↬ | ↬ | Rightwards arrow with loop |
| ↶ | ↶ | ↶ | ↶ | Anticlockwise top semicircle arrow |
| ↷ | ↷ | ↷ | ↷ | Clockwise top semicircle arrow |
| ↺ | ↺ | ↺ | ↺ | Anticlockwise open circle arrow |
| ↻ | ↻ | ↻ | ↻ | Clockwise open circle arrow |
Additional Arrow Symbols
Unicode includes many additional arrows for mathematical notation and specialized directional relationships.
| Character | Named | Decimal | Hexadecimal | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ↚ | ↚ | ↚ | ↚ | Leftwards arrow with stroke |
| ↛ | ↛ | ↛ | ↛ | Rightwards arrow with stroke |
| ↞ | ↞ | ↞ | ↞ | Leftwards two headed arrow |
| ↠ | ↠ | ↠ | ↠ | Rightwards two headed arrow |
| ↢ | ↢ | ↢ | ↢ | Leftwards arrow with tail |
| ↣ | ↣ | ↣ | ↣ | Rightwards arrow with tail |
| ↦ | ↦ | ↦ | ↦ | Rightwards arrow from bar |
| ↼ | ↼ | ↼ | ↼ | Leftwards harpoon with barb upwards |
| ⇀ | ⇀ | ⇀ | ⇀ | Rightwards harpoon with barb upwards |
| ⇌ | ⇌ | ⇌ | ⇌ | Rightwards harpoon over leftwards harpoon |
Using Arrows in HTML
Arrow symbols can be entered directly in UTF-8 HTML or written with named, decimal, or hexadecimal character references. Character references are useful when you want the HTML source to clearly identify the Unicode character being used.
